Stop Payroll pauses all future payments to a worker but leaves their access alone. Suspend Access blocks a worker from Sequifi but doesn't change their pay. Disable User marks the worker as disabled from today. There is no Terminate button in the web app, and none of these deletes the worker.
Who can do this:Stop Payroll and Suspend Access are for Company Admins (super admins) only, and never on your own profile. Disable User needs access to the worker's profile plus the Profile > Organisation > Dismiss Users permission in your permission group.
Which one to use
Control | What it does | Undo with |
Stop Payroll | Stops all future payments. Each time payroll is executed, the worker's amounts move to the next pay period instead of being paid, so pay builds up. Access to Sequifi stays the same. The worker no longer sees Pending Pay. | Start Payroll |
Suspend Access | Restricts the worker's access to Sequifi. Payroll calculations and payouts continue as normal. | Grant Access |
Disable User | Marks the worker as disabled starting today. They show a Disabled badge, and requests dated after the disable date are refused ("You have been disabled"). | Enable User |
To stop paying one specific amount instead of a whole worker, use Do Not Pay in Run Payroll. See Do Not Pay, Mark as Paid or Move to Next Payroll.
Stop or start payroll
Open the worker's profile. In the Admin view, select your company's name at the bottom of the menu, then User Management, and select the worker's name. Or, in the Worker view, open Management > Personnel.
Select Stop Payroll.
Read the message: "Choosing to stop payroll for this user will only stop all future payments to this person. All other system access will remain unchanged. Are you sure you wish to continue?" Select Yes.
To pay the worker again, open the profile and select Start Payroll. Everything that built up is paid in the next payroll you execute.
In Run Payroll, a worker on Stop Payroll has a Stop Payroll icon next to their name, and their custom payroll fields can't be edited. Amounts marked Do Not Pay never carry forward.
If you see "Cannot change payroll status: employee has a payroll currently in finalize state.", Stop Payroll and Start Payroll are blocked by a payroll that is finalizing, finalized, executing or failed. Ask the payroll owner to resolve that payroll safely before changing the worker's payroll status.
Suspend or restore access
Open the worker's profile, or find them in User Management and open the row's actions menu. (In User Management, Suspend Access isn't offered for a disabled user.)
Select Suspend Access.
Read the message: "Choosing to Suspend Access for this user will restrict their access to Sequifi but will not affect their payroll calculations or payouts. Are you sure you want to proceed?" Select Yes.
To restore it, select Grant Access.
Disable or enable a user
Open the worker's profile, or find them in User Management and open the row's actions menu.
Select Disable User and confirm with Yes.
To reverse it, select Enable User.
Status badges in User Management
Badge | Meaning |
Active | No restrictions. |
Payroll Stopped | Stop Payroll is on. |
Access Suspended | Suspend Access is on. |
Disabled | Disable User is on. |
Contract Ended | The worker's contract has ended. Their profile shows Rehire to people with the required hiring permission and profile access. |
Terminated | The worker has been marked terminated outside this web workflow. You can't set this in the web app. Terminated workers stay in Sequifi, and their profile no longer offers Update Employment Package, Reset Password, Suspend Access or Disable User. |
Each worker shows one badge. When several apply, the first in this order appears: Terminated, Disabled, Contract Ended, Access Suspended, Payroll Stopped, then Active.

Common questions
Which should I use when someone leaves?
Usually Suspend Access to block their access, plus Stop Payroll if you need to hold their pay. See Offboarding a worker.
Why don't I see Stop Payroll or Suspend Access?
Only Company Admins see them, and never on their own profile.
Do any of these delete the worker?
No. The worker, their sales and their pay history stay in Sequifi.

Still stuck? Getting help from Sequifi Support.
If Stop Payroll is blocked: Ask the payroll owner to review the existing payroll and contact Sequifi Support if the correct next step is unclear. Do not execute payroll, send payments, or change finalization status merely to bypass this blocker. Those actions affect the actual payroll and require the payroll owner’s review.
