You can request two kinds of advance in Requests > My Requests > Add Request. A General Advance is money paid to you now and taken back from a later payroll. An Advance against an Account is tied to one of your sales: you can ask for up to the commission still expected on that sale, and it's taken back out of that sale's commission when it's paid.
Who can do this: Workers whose permission group includes Requests and Add Request. Managers and super admins can also request one for someone else. Your company decides whether to approve an advance. You can't request an advance in the mobile app.
Compare the two advances
General Advance | Advance against an Account | |
Tied to | Nothing. It's a plain amount. | One sale (account) that you pick. |
How much | The amount you enter. Your company decides whether to approve it. | Up to the commission you're still expected to earn on that sale, minus any earlier advances on it. Commission marked Do Not Pay doesn't count. |
How it's paid back | Taken out of a later payroll. Your company chooses whether that's the next available payroll or a pay period your admin picks. If your company uses reserve balances, it's repaid from your reserve when the advance is paid. | Taken out of that sale's commission automatically, in the payroll where the commission is paid, until the advance is covered. |
There is no Draw request type in Sequifi. To get money ahead of your earnings, use one of these two advance types.
Request an advance
Open Requests and select My Requests.
Select Add Request.
In Type of Request, choose General Advance or Advance against an Account.
For a General Advance, enter the Amount. If your company uses reserve balances, the form shows your current reserve balance.
For an Advance against an Account, pick the sale in Customer (search by customer name or ID), then enter the Amount. You can pick only one sale.
Add a Description and any supporting file if you want.
Select Submit Request.
What happens next
Your request starts as Pending and goes to your manager. If you have no manager, or your company skips manager approval, it goes to your company's admins.
When your manager approves it, it shows Approved. It isn't paid yet: an admin still has to schedule it.
The admin adds it to a payroll (it shows Scheduled) or pays it right away as a one-time payment.
After it's paid, it shows Paid. Repayment then starts as described above.
On My Requests, the Outstanding Advances card shows how much you still owe, with counts for Advances, Outstanding and Repaid. Select the card to list only your advances. The Outstanding column shows what's left on each one.
On the mobile app
You can't request an advance in the app. Use a web browser, including your phone's. After you submit it, you can follow it in the app under Requests. See Mobile: track requests and approve them.
Troubleshooting
Message | What it means |
"Amount exceeds the available commission to advance ($X) for this account." | You asked for more than you can borrow on that sale. Enter an amount up to the figure shown. |
"Available commission for this account has changed to $X. This advance can no longer be approved at its requested amount; please decline and recreate it." | Your approver sees this when the sale's expected commission dropped after you asked. They decline it, and you can submit a new request for a smaller amount. |
Which sales can I advance against?
Sales where you still have commission coming for milestones that don't have a date yet. You can't advance against a cancelled or clawed-back sale.
